Research Blog: Finding the Right Music Video

 Lets Analyze Some Videos!

Everlong

  • Lots of overshoulder or close up shots, some mid-low angle shots, but also a lot of POV shown.
  • Cutting used a lot, to display transfers between dreams and real life or dream to dream, they use a fade out then in.
  • They do not include any ambient sound, only the music and some parts where the characters are singing the lyrics.
  • The scenery changes from real life into dream state, in the real lifeit first shows two men approaching the house of another man and his partner, from here it goes in a back and forth between real life and dream state, within the dream state, the clothing and hair change, until near the end where the man goes into his regular clothing to rescue his partner. Also, near the end when the fight is over, the band gets out of the people as if they were costumes and continue to sing and perform the rest of the song.
The Adults Are Talking
  • Close up shots, lots of low angle shots, some mid-level, but mostly just close up shots.
  • Majorly only cutting, there is some jump-cuts when it shows the robot being perfect completely in everything.
  • No ambient sound, just the music, no lyrical matches either, meaning the characters within the video did not sing the lyrics.
  • The scenery is mainly a baseball team going against a team of robots, it changes mainly when showing what the robots are also perfect at, the costumes stay relatively the same except when showing the other things the robots are good at. Near the end to the end, the characters are happy that they were able to score one point, and that is when everyone is bunched together, people celebrating and changing their mood, at one point the main baseball player even punches another.
Summer Breeze
  • Distant shots, zoom ins that display candid shots, all manly candid shots of people enjoying the beach, some tracking.
  • Cutting sometimes used, its all mainly fade ins of the next shot.
  • No ambient sound, no one singing the lyrics, mainly just the music over the video.
  • The scenery is mainly just the beach or environment, it changes when it fades into the tree or rocks but other than that, it relatively stays the same. The people are all wearing beach wear, they dont change clothing throughout the music video.
The song I am officially going to choose, is Everlong! The song displays a good genre of alternative rock and post grunge, and gives a atmosphere of a late night scene or rush of emotions. The other songs were good, especially The Adults Are Talking, but I believe Everlong would help me display the vision of I have of a angsty but rush of emotions genre. The music video the FooFighters did of Everlong also proved to me that it can be done. The Video was very well made and had a great story behind it, showing progressively how this man and his partner over come these mysterious men that appeared in their dream.
